Observations on Atheism and Reason
Trevor Karsdale
author The Pain of Reason
In recent years neuroscientists have produced various studies and empirical evidence that humans are indeed the creator of their gods.
In many cases all that separates the theist from the reason of atheism is the understanding of the science. The genetics (DNA) and psychological chemistry that make up faith is now found to predate our modern civilizations and into our hominid past.
Survival instincts have always been promoted by our protectors, and consequently reinforced through the mechanisms of our brain functions which appear to be innate for the human mind. Scientists believe our survival instincts and their attachments to a father figure are hard wired through the evolutionary process of natural selection with its evolved adaptations.
As a result, our shared social interaction dating to prehistory has created the images of earlier gods in animal forms and more recently human forms. In this way our minds are allowed to mix our imaginations with our experiences to create answers for our suffering which leads to fantasying desirable answers that reward our thoughts. This wish thinking process is only a psychological adaptation in our species and with the newer neurological explanations today with its understanding of the temporal lobe and its stimulations, everyone can now begin to explore their cognitive contradictions.
People it seems inherit many beliefs that simply haven’t been examined with legitimate inquiries for each life’s most important and vital issues. Generations of blind acceptance adds little but fear and compunction to embrace contradictory values and beliefs which hinder reasonable conclusions. With courage and the perseverance of curiosity one can break the bondage of faiths and their burdens.
